My 2025 Runners Round-Up
As the year comes to a close, it's time to reflect on all the amazing experiences I've had as a runner this year. Here’s my personal round-up of my favorite things in the running and adventuring world for December 2025!
1. Favorite Race of the Year
Race Name: Vancouver Half Marathon
Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada
Date: May 3, 2025
This race was unforgettable because it highlights the absolute gem of a city that is Vancouver. Over the years this race has grown and this year was no exception. The fantastic finish line party right on the water front created the best backdrop to soak in all the post race vibes. This year the sun was in full swing and we couldn't have asked for better weather! It was so great that I signed up for the full marathon in 2026 because it’s been over 5 years since I’ve run the full distance!
2. Favorite Gear
Item: Camping seat pad
This year, I discovered this amazing piece of gear that I didn’t even know I needed. On our 5 day camping adventure in the Rockies, I would say that this little piece of foldable foam was the single most used piece of gear (besides my water filters) that made the trip just that little bit more comfortable! A last minute addition, and gift from my hiking friend, I was so grateful to have something a little softer to sit on while on the trail. It was useful in so many ways from a warm seat on a wet bench to a dry place to put your boots on, to a knee pad to put up and take down your sleep system! I’m going to be taking this little piece of foam with me everywhere, maybe even on a trail runs!
3. Favorite Running App
App Name: Suunto App
I’ve been using the Suunto App to track my runs, and I love it because it has everything I need. I’ve been running with Suunto watches since 2018 and I will never go back! Not only are they pretty for my small wrists, but they have amazing battery power and an excellent level of customer service. The app itself is amazing and my favorite feature is the map function that allows me to create my own routes. I was surprised to find even the smalled, unused trails on Bowen were on it! The app links to most other apps, like Strava, Training Peaks, etc.
4. Most Inspiring Running Moment
In 2025, my most inspiring moment was watching my friends rock their goal races this year. From full marathons, to big ultra distances, watching you all achieve your goals, was most inspiring for me, in a year when I wasn’t able to achieve my own. Watching strangers cross race finish lines while volunteering at Knee Knacker and Squamish 50 was nearly as fun as participating in the races themselves! These moments reminded me why I love running.
5. Favorite Injury Hack
Injury Hack: Contrast Water Therapy
Spending a good part of this year injured had me testing and trying a number of different creams, therapies and exercises to help manage pain and swelling. Hands down my favorite and most effective was contrast water therapy, alternating hot and cold water, about every 3 minutes for 30 minutes. It was so effective on reducing swelling and improving mobility because it helps to flush waste and deliver nutrients via a "pumping" effect through improved circulation.
6. Best Nutrition or Fuel
Product Name: Xact Fruit and Nut bars
This year, xact came out with their newest product, a delicious fruit and nut bar that is loaded with flavour! It’s made out of almonds, dates and fruit pulp, making it the tastiest and easy to digest snack. I found it to be a game-changer on my longer hikes because it has a nice mix of carbs, protein and fat, in easy and accessible packaging making a great snack for long distance adventures!
7. Podcast Recommendation
Title: Earth Movers Podcast
This podcast inspired me this year because it showcases views and voices that are often under represented in the running industry. They showcase Weekly conversations that celebrate the growth, joy, and healing of getting in nature, and the challenging issues around exclusion and discrimination—as told by those who know from experience. The conversations and guests are centered around people of colour and discussions are always, fun casual and inspirational.
8. Goals for 2026
Looking ahead to next year, I’m excited to get running again. After over 6 months of regaining strength, rebuilding endurances and focusing on mobility, I hope to hit the trails again in early 2026. I am aiming to tack the vancouver Marathon as my first goal and then will try again for the Buck Me This Goat is Knackered (BMTGIK) 50km BC Trifecta, that’s if I get into the Knee Knacker (it’s a lottery entry). Regardless, if I can even do 2 of the three, it’s more than I was able to do this year!
Conclusion
As 2025 wraps up, I am grateful for all the experiences I've had as a runner, and I look forward to what 2026 has in store. Wish you all a happy and healthy running season!
